Agustí Torelló Mata is a respected family producer based in Sant Sadurní d’Anoia in the Penedès region, the historic heart of quality sparkling wine in Spain. Founded in 1955, the estate is known for its focus on long ageing and traditional method production. The winery is a founding member of Corpinnat, a collective of producers committed to high quality sparkling wines made entirely from organic, hand harvested grapes within a defined area of Penedès. Corpinnat emphasises extended ageing, local sourcing and sustainable viticulture. Vineyards are planted on limestone and clay soils under a Mediterranean climate, providing freshness and structure. Kripta is only produced in top vintages.
Kripta Brut is made from approximately 45% Macabeo, 20% Xarel·lo and 35% Parellada. The base wines are fermented separately before blending and undergoing secondary fermentation in bottle. The wine is aged on its lees for a minimum of around 48 months, often longer, enhancing complexity and texture, and finished with a low dosage to preserve purity. It shows aromas of citrus, baked apple, brioche and toasted nuts, with fine mousse and a mineral, persistent finish. It is drinking very well now but can continue to develop further complexity with age. It pairs well with seafood, shellfish and refined dishes. It has received high acclaim, with scores around 95 points, praised as an elegant and complex sparkling wine with notable depth and finesse.
