Niepoort Vertente 2021

Coming from different plots and vines over 35 years old, this wine is a combination of new processing and old tradtions. With the name “Vertente” meaning “hillside” this wine represents an overview of the Douro Valley. The 2021 vintage saw a large increase in the grapes harvested, noting higher acidity with lower alcohol after a suprisingly cool summer, leaving firm skins on the perfect grapes. The Vertente 2021 was fermented in conical stainless steel tanks before being left to mature for 22 months in french oak barrels, giving it a lovely mature elegance.

This complex red blend maintains a remarkable freshness. With red fruits and forest on the nose, the palate is juicy and mineral with notes of plum. Medium bodied with soft tannins, and an elegant finish. Pairs perfectly with roasted meats, smoky cheese and hearty meals.
