Ausas Interpretacion Ribera del Duero 2019

In Castilla y Leon the sharp contrast between the seasons create a highly selective wine crop. Each cool evening rests the grapes and fine allowing strong plump grapes to grow each season. Unlike other Spanish terroirs, this region remains fairly flat and mineral rich in soil, compared to the steep hills found along the river. Created from the passionate mind of Xavier Ausas, this tempranillo offers much to any fan of red wine. His main focus is balancing the robustness found in ribera wines with the softness of a rounded palate. Under his own label Interpretacion, this tempranillo comes from the heart.

Ausàs offers a fruity, pure and mineral nose, showing notes of cherry, blackberry along with dried flowers and thyme which lends the wine its balsamic notes. On the palate it is juicy and tannin forward creating a mouth watering finish.

The 2019 vintage was widely rated excellent for Ausàs Interpretación and Ribera del Duero as a whole. It followed a warm, dry growing season with plenty of sunshine and relatively low rainfall, producing small, concentrated Tempranillo berries with ripe fruit and balanced acidity. Big diurnal shifts helped maintain freshness despite the heat, and harvest conditions were generally healthy, resulting in expressive, structured wines with depth and ageing potential. 2019’s Excellent designation reflects these strong climatic and ripening conditions, making it a standout vintage in the region.
