Description

Produced by Col d’Orcia in Montalcino, Tuscany, Italy, Poggio al Vento Riserva is one of the estate’s most prestigious wines, released only in exceptional vintages. Founded in 1890 and owned by the Cinzano family since 1973, Col d’Orcia is one of Montalcino’s largest historic estates, with vineyards occupying the sun-drenched southern slopes of the appellation. The estate has long been recognised for producing Brunello of remarkable elegance, longevity and fidelity to Sangiovese, while today also being one of the region’s largest certified organic producers. The outstanding 2006 vintage is regarded as one of the finest Brunello vintages of the modern era, combining a long, even growing season with ideal harvest conditions to produce wines of exceptional structure, aromatic purity and extraordinary ageing potential.

Made from 100% Sangiovese, Poggio al Vento Riserva is produced exclusively from the estate’s finest vineyard parcels before undergoing extended maturation in large Slavonian and French oak casks followed by prolonged bottle ageing prior to release. After nearly two decades, the 2006 has evolved into a magnificent expression of mature Brunello, revealing aromas of black cherry, dried raspberry and wild berries layered with violet, rose petals, cedar, tobacco, leather, truffle, balsamic herbs, liquorice and earthy spice. The palate is both powerful and graceful, combining finely resolved tannins with vibrant acidity, remarkable freshness and exceptional length. Despite its maturity, the wine retains outstanding energy and continues to promise many years of further evolution. A benchmark Brunello Riserva, it is an exceptional partner for bistecca alla Fiorentina, braised beef, venison, wild boar, truffle dishes and mature Pecorino Toscano.
