Vin de la Solitude Rouge is a striking expression of the estate’s commitment to preserving the historic identity of the appellation. The domaine traces its origins back to the seventeenth century and remains in the hands of the Lançon family, whose history is closely linked to that of Châteauneuf-du-Pape itself. Rather than relying on a single dominant grape variety, this cuvée celebrates the region’s traditional field-blend heritage, drawing on old vineyards planted with a remarkable diversity of varieties across the appellation’s mosaic of galets roulés, sandy and limestone-rich soils. Sustainable farming and careful vineyard management underpin the estate’s philosophy, with the aim of expressing both terroir and the individuality of each vintage.

The 2023 blend is highly distinctive, combining 25% Grenache, 22% Serine – the ancient local ancestor of Syrah – 20% Counoise, 20% Mourvèdre, 7% Cinsault, 3% Clairette, 2% Clairette Rosé and the remaining 1% made up of Bourboulenc, Roussanne and Picpoul. Fermented with a restrained, traditional approach, the wine reflects the complexity that such a broad palette of varieties can provide. Aromas of black cherry, wild raspberry and plum are layered with notes of garrigue, violet, black pepper and sweet spice, while the white varieties contribute lift and aromatic freshness. The palate is supple yet structured, combining the richness of Grenache, the savoury depth of Mourvèdre, the spice of Serine and the brightness of Counoise and Cinsault. Elegant rather than heavy, it is a nuanced and highly individual expression of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, built on balance, freshness and remarkable complexity.
