Chateau Berliquet Saint Emilion Grand Cru 2011

Château Berliquet Saint-Émilion Grand Cru 2011 is a distinguished expression of one of the Right Bank’s oldest estates. With a history dating back to the 18th century, the château occupies a privileged position on the limestone plateau of Saint-Émilion, where its vineyards benefit from shallow clay soils over solid limestone, a terroir renowned for producing wines of finesse, freshness and longevity. Although the estate is now owned by the Chanel group, the 2011 vintage predates this acquisition and reflects the château’s traditional style. The 2011 growing season presented significant challenges, but careful vineyard management produced wines of classical Bordeaux character, emphasising elegance, aromatic purity and balance over sheer power.

Predominantly made from Merlot, complemented by Cabernet Franc and a small proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon, Château Berliquet 2011 was traditionally vinified before maturation in French oak barrels to refine its structure and complexity. Now entering a beautiful stage of maturity, the wine reveals aromas of black cherry, plum and redcurrant intertwined with cedar, tobacco, graphite, dried flowers, forest floor, leather and gentle spice. The palate is supple and harmonious, supported by polished tannins, fresh acidity and a graceful mineral backbone that reflects the estate’s limestone terroir. Elegant rather than opulent, it finishes with savoury notes and impressive persistence. It is an excellent partner for roast lamb, duck, beef, mushroom dishes and mature hard cheeses.
