Le Carillon d’Angélus 2006 is the second wine of one of Bordeaux’s most celebrated Right Bank estates: Château Angélus. The de Boüard family has farmed the historic slopes at the foot of the Saint-Émilion plateau for generations, building Angélus into one of the region’s benchmark properties. Sourced from the same exceptional clay-limestone and clay-sand terroirs that contribute to the grand vin, Le Carillon is produced with the same meticulous attention to vineyard management and winemaking, while offering a more accessible expression of the estate’s distinctive style. The 2006 vintage comes from a classic Bordeaux growing season that favoured structure, freshness and longevity over sheer opulence, producing wines that have rewarded patient cellaring.

Made predominantly from Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the wine was matured in French oak before extended bottle ageing prior to release. Now approaching two decades of age, the 2006 has entered a beautifully mature phase, where primary fruit has evolved into a more complex tapestry of secondary and tertiary aromas. Notes of black cherry, plum and cassis are joined by cedar, tobacco leaf, graphite, leather and subtle earthy nuances. The palate is supple and harmonious, with the once-firm tannins now largely resolved, while retaining enough freshness and structure to maintain definition and length. More approachable today than in its youth, it captures the elegance and limestone-driven character of Saint-Émilion while offering the complexity and refinement that only mature Bordeaux can deliver. Well stored bottles should continue to drink beautifully over the coming years.
