Von Winning Weissburgunder 2024

Weingut von Winning is based in Deidesheim, in Germany’s Pfalz region, where the Haardt hills provide shelter from cooler weather and create favourable conditions for growing expressive white wines. The estate manages around 50 hectares of vineyards stretching from Neustadt-Haardt through Deidesheim to Forst. Its Weissburgunder, known internationally as Pinot Blanc, comes from the Pfalz’s loess and loam soils, which help give the wine both ripe fruit and a gentle mineral character. Von Winning combines careful vineyard management with a considered approach in the cellar, avoiding herbicides, insecticides and chemical fertilisers in its vineyards.

Made from 100% Weissburgunder, the 2024 is fermented and matured to retain the grape’s natural fruit while developing a little extra texture. Pear, ripe apple and yellow plum lead the aromas, with hints of citrus and white flowers. The palate is dry and supple, balancing juicy stone fruit with refreshing acidity and a subtle mineral edge. A touch of rounded richness gives it more presence than a very light, simple Pinot Blanc, while the finish remains fresh and easy to enjoy. Serve as an aperitif or alongside roast chicken, smoked fish, salmon with asparagus, creamy pasta or soft cheeses.
