{"product_id":"querciabella-batar-2023","title":"Querciabella Batar 2023","description":"\u003cp\u003e\nBatàr has been produced by Querciabella since 1988 and has become one of Tuscany’s most distinctive white wines, combining Chardonnay and Pinot Bianco from the high elevation vineyards of Ruffoli in Greve in Chianti. Querciabella has farmed organically for more than 30 years and adopted plant-based biodynamic practices in 2000, with the estate also fully vegan. The Chardonnay comes from the south-facing Casaocci Sud at around 350 metres and Il Pallonaio at 600 metres, where galestro and sandstone contribute concentration, flinty minerality and freshness. The Pinot Bianco grows on cooler north-facing sites around 400 metres, where decomposed galestro produces clay and schist-rich soils that contribute texture and volume. This combination of contrasting exposures, elevations and soils gives Batàr its distinctive balance of richness, freshness and mineral tension.\n\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003e\nThe 2023 Batàr is a 50\/50 blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Bianco, with the individual lots vinified separately before the final blend is assembled after élevage. The grapes are hand selected and gently pressed, with the wine fermented and matured in fine and extra fine grained French oak barriques. It remains on its own yeasts for more than nine months, with restrained bâtonnage, and reduced reliance on new oak helps preserve the wine’s freshness and precision. The 2023 has a layered bouquet of lemon zest, tangerine, pear and white flowers, with creamy, waxy and subtly nutty notes, followed by mineral, saline and gently spicy nuances. Broad and textured on the palate, it balances richness with vibrant acidity and a long, refreshing finish. It works particularly well with seared scallops, Dover sole, lobster, risotto alla Milanese, white truffle, roasted mushrooms and aged cheeses.
