Pizzorno manages the vineyards with an emphasis on environmental responsibility, including rational water use and careful control of vine growth and yields. Rather than blending Tannat with other varieties, the Golden Reserve is a pure expression of the grape, selected for its concentration and structure and given extended ageing to develop greater depth and complexity.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eMade from 100% Tannat, this is a powerful but polished wine, with blackberry, black plum and other dark fruits alongside dried fig, tobacco, graphite, cocoa and sweet spice. The wine spends 18 months in oak, giving the substantial tannins time to soften while adding layers of toast, cedar and subtle smoke. There is plenty of concentration, but fresh acidity keeps the palate balanced and prevents the richness from becoming heavy. The tannins are firm and mature, with a long, savoury finish that gradually reveals dark chocolate and spice.
