Produced by Luis Seabra from selected Portuguese vineyards in the Dao, Mono A is a rare and expressive interpretation of one of Portugal’s most fascinating native red grape varieties. After many years working alongside Dirk Niepoort, where he became known for his role in crafting some of the Douro’s most respected wines, Luis Seabra established his own project with a clear focus on authenticity, vineyard expression and traditional Portuguese varieties. The Mono series explores individual grape varieties, allowing their unique character and personality to take centre stage. Alfrocheiro is a historic Portuguese grape prized for its deep colour, floral aromatics, fresh acidity and ability to create wines that combine structure with elegance.

Made from Alfrocheiro, Mono A showcases the variety’s remarkable balance between intensity and finesse. Crafted with a restrained approach that prioritises purity, texture and the expression of the fruit, the wine avoids excessive extraction and instead highlights the natural elegance of the grape. It reveals aromas of black cherry, wild berries and plum, complemented by violet, lavender, Mediterranean herbs, spice and subtle earthy nuances. On the palate, it is refined and energetic, with vibrant acidity, silky tannins, a savoury mineral character and a long, graceful finish. A distinctive example of a lesser-known Portuguese variety, this wine reflects Luis Seabra’s philosophy of creating precise, terroir-focused wines with a strong sense of identity. It pairs beautifully with grilled meats, roasted lamb, game dishes, charcuterie, mushrooms and mature cheeses.
