{"product_id":"de-la-riva-vino-balanco-macharnudo","title":"De La Riva Vino Balanco Macharnudo 2020","description":"\u003cp\u003eDe La Riva Vino Blanco Macharnudo 2020 is part of a project led by winemakers Willy Pérez and Ramiro Ibáñez, dedicated to reviving the historic, unfortified “vino de pasto” tradition of the Marco de Jerez in southern Spain. Working with old vineyard sites of great pedigree, their focus is on expressing terroir rather than fortification. This wine comes from the renowned El Notario parcel in Macharnudo Alto, the highest vineyard area in the region at around 136 metres elevation. The 35 year old Palomino Fino vines are rooted in classic albariza soils, specifically tosca de barajuelas, a chalky limestone known for retaining moisture, in a region know for hot, arid conditions and producing wines of concentration and marked minerality. Farming follows organic principles, though not certified. The 2020 vintage offered warm, stable conditions, yielding healthy grapes with excellent balance and definition.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eMade from 100% Palomino Fino, the grapes undergo a short period of asoleo, or sun-drying, for 6-8 hours to gently concentrate sugars and flavour. Fermentation occurs with native yeasts in traditional 600L sherry botas, followed by around 20 months of biological ageing under a light veil of flor, without fortification. The result is a highly distinctive white wine that bridges the gap between fine still wine and Fino-style complexity. Aromas show flint, sesame, ginger, roasted nuts, chamomile and citrus, while the palate is full bodied and textural with a pronounced chalky grip, saline intensity and a long, savoury finish with notes of almond and iodine. Ideal with seafood, grilled fish, cured meats or umami-rich dishes. Drinking beautifully now, it will evolve over 8-12 years. Production is small and limited at approximately 1,500-2,000 bottles.
