Valdipiatta Vino Nobile di Montepulciano 2020
Valdipiatta is a family owned estate in the heart of Montepulciano, Tuscany, established in 1988 and today run by Miriam Maggi. The winery is recognised for producing elegant, terroir focused wines that express the character of the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano appellation. The vineyards are situated on rolling hills between 250 and 350 metres above sea level, where clay, sandstone and marine sediment soils provide excellent drainage and complexity. Benefiting from warm Tuscan sunshine and cooling evening breezes, the vines produce fruit of remarkable balance and concentration. Valdipiatta is certified organic and follows sustainable farming practices that promote biodiversity and long term soil health.
Valdipiatta Vino Nobile di Montepulciano 2020 is a blend of 90% Sangiovese and 10% Canaiolo. Fermentation takes place in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks before the wine is aged for approximately 24 months in a combination of large Slavonian oak casks and French oak barrels, followed by further bottle maturation before release. The excellent 2020 vintage has produced a wine of both structure and elegance, with aromas of red cherry, blackberry and violet layered with notes of spice, tobacco and earthy minerality. The palate is refined and balanced with polished tannins and vibrant acidity. It pairs beautifully with roast lamb, game, rich pasta dishes, wild mushrooms and mature pecorino cheese.
