Produttori del Barbaresco 2020
Produttori del Barbaresco is the producer of this superb wine, a renowned co-operative founded in 1958 by a group of small growers in the hills of the Barbaresco DOCG region of Piedmont, Italy. The co-op now brings together over 50 member families maintaining some 120 hectares of vineyards, cultivating only the local grape Nebbiolo. Their vines sit on soils rich in limestone and clay, often with sandy veins, typical terroir of Barbaresco, lending structure and finesse. Viticultural practices are described as “close to nature,” though the vineyards are not uniformly certified organic or biodynamic.
The 2020 Barbaresco from Produttori del Barbaresco is made from 100% Nebbiolo grapes, harvested from a selection of the co-op’s vineyards across the DOCG zone. After fermentation in stainless steel with an extended maceration period, the wine is aged for about 20 months in large oak casks before bottling. The result is a wine with bright ruby-to-garnet colour, a bouquet of red cherry, wild strawberry, violet, and spice, and a palate that is well structured yet elegant, with firm tannins and a lingering mineral finish. It pairs beautifully with rich pasta dishes, roast lamb, game, or mature cheeses.
