Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia comes from the prestigious Ornellaia estate in Bolgheri, Tuscany, founded in 1981 by Lodovico Antinori. The estate spans 98 hectares of vineyards planted on clay, limestone, and sandy soils, with a focus on sustainable viticulture, promoting biodiversity and soil health. The vineyards benefit from the cooling Mediterranean breezes, ensuring excellent ripening and balance. Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia is considered the second wine of the Ornellaia estate. It complements their flagship Ornellaia wine by offering a more approachable and earlier-drinking expression, while still reflecting the quality and terroir of the Bolgheri vineyards.
The 2022 Le Serre Nuove blend is approximately 55% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Petit Verdot. Grapes are hand-harvested and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, then aged 12-14 months in French oak barrels, 30% of which are new. The wine opens with vibrant aromas of ripe red and black berries, complemented by hints of cassis, violets, and subtle spice. On the palate, it is rich and structured, showing layers of plum, dark cherry, and cocoa, balanced by bright acidity and fine-grained tannins. The finish is long, elegant, and lingering, with a touch of minerality from the estate’s Bolgheri terroir. It pairs beautifully with roasted lamb, grilled steak, truffle risotto or aged cheeses..
