Domaine Matrot Saint Romain 2022

The sisters have recently having taken over from their highly respected father Thierry Matrot, who had made the wines here for over three decades. Indeed, Thierry is still very much present at the domaine, lending evidence to the theory that Burgundian vignerons never actually retire… Be that as it may, 2017 is Adèle and Elsa’s second vintage in charge.

The domaine has been totally organic since 2000, making both reds and whites. In recent vintages it has been hit particularly hard by hail and frost, which makes the more normal yields this year particularly gratifying here. From fruit bought under a long term contract and harvested by the Matrots themselves; 20% new oak. Very pale with a green glint, a nose of creamed citrus fruit, lightly grilled, rich and juicy, leading to a palate of big, creamed citrus fruits, nice intensity, toasty and crunchy and with a lovely long finish.
